65% of 5.7 million Syrian refugees are children. Syrian children at the age of 10 have never known anything but war. Their childhood has been stripped away from them causing them to miss a very important stage of life. There are no memories but bomb explosions and death.

So, why the Humaniteddy project? We often forget the children have not been able to play. They are not able to have toys. Thus, the Humaniteddy Project was created for KHOM to provide:

• Emotional and spiritual
• Books and stationeries needed for children's education.

The idea was born by the Chairperson and her team who suggested for a teddy bear project to be called Humaniteddy, the combination of the word ’humanitarian’ and ’teddybear’. The hand sewn teddy was called Teddycare and was created by a KHOM volunteer. For each purchase of a Teddycare which was to be gifted directly to a Syrian refugee child, the donor also sponsored the child with a supply of stationeries to be used for educational purposes.

As of 28 December of 2019, 150 Humaniteddies were flown to Jordan to be given as gifts together with books and stationeries for 150 refugee children.

The boys although aged 11 or 12 were just as excited as the girls receiving the cute Teddycares. It so seemed that both boys and girls had lost every part of their childhood. They had never had toys, so it wasn’t about gender, it was also not related to age, it was about giving them back a piece of life that was missing. And that missing part was their childhood.

Little things do make the biggest difference.
